End of June

Well it's the end of June and I'm looking back over the last week, been one of those weeks when everything seems to happen. Was especially sad to see Farrah Fawcett lost her fight with cancer, now that was one woman who had a hard time with the press. I spent a long night browsing over old footage and remembering my high school days, we all had something for at least one of the Angels:-) She'll forever symbolise beauty for me at least.
On the writing front, I've been looking over the authonomy and webook sites, trying to make head or tail of the feedbacking sections. I'm thinking these sites are certainly useful as storyboard, workshop sites, you can upload stories and give and receive feedback. As to the I'll get rich quick idea through these sites, it's doubtful but anything's possible. I'm preferring to utilise them as a networking environment to connect with other writers. I've left comments with some writers and gotten some back in return.
The Boston Slasher was uploaded in full to authonomy, you can't download it of course but at least it's available for review purposes.
I've completed a few more stories for Sing Me A Love Song, they are in no particular order, I Love You, I Adore You, which is a line from an ABBA song I know but hey it's not copyright, I may drop the I adore you and put a PS in front of the I love you. It's set in New York, jaded New York detective comes into contact with a curious model in a gay bar and we have this quirky story that has a gritty feel to it, the feminising of a butch woman. I liked it.
A Chance Encounter was renamed An Accidental Meeting and extensively reworked, I left the opening very open to interpretation, I think these two women would be a perfect couple, but it's up to the reader to interpret it.
Summer Love is taken from a classic Grease type theme, albeit in the year 2009, two young women, best friends on their way home from summer camp, they stop off in a cheap motel in Missouri. There's something about small town America and cheap hotels that is incredibly romantic!
The last story was an entry to lushstories.com, I'm not real impressed by the site but the money is tempting, $250 first prize for the winning entry, I'm not confident on that one, but on the other hand I didn't put too much work into the story! if it all falls down I'll rewrite for a more highbrow audience.
Finally I've decided to gather together a bunch of short stories that have been sitting around doing nothing for the last few years. Some have been published, others haven't been submitted yet and probably won't be submitted. But I'm going to put them into an anthology and publish it on Lulu.
So, lots happening, I'll let you know what else happens in the next few weeks.
Cheers,
Alastair

New Project on WE books

Well it's finally been confirmed, I'm doing an anthology of erotic romance stories, with a distinctly lesbian feel. Don't ask me why I chose that particular theme, it just seemed such a challenging role to take that I couldn't help myself, so here I am with about seven stories in the mix up on WE books, not sure how many of them I will keep and haven't even decided on how many will be in the final cut, let alone when I'm publishing but I'll keep people updated as best as possible.
The trick to this anthology is taking classic love themes and making both protagonists female, just to see how it plays out, so far the reaction has been positive from both gay and straight women so I may be onto a good thing. Then again, we never know! But it's a nice little project and one that keeps my imagination flowing.
I'm looking at a Harper Collins site, authonomy.com, which has a similar feature to WE books but this one is a little fancier, I have registered on the site and will look at what they offer. Apparently it was set up to deal with the problems of slush piles.
We'll see.
In the meantime, enjoy the short stories I've posted on my website.
Cheers,
Alastair
Updated the short story section on my webpage, lots of new short stories to look at!
